okay, michelle. i know you have been in the french quarter the last couple of days but you did a little traveling yesterday, didn't you? >> yes, we did. we actually went to uptown which is up the river and this is one area that was not affected or not flooded by hurricane katrina. and i'll tell you, they take a lot of pride in their neighborhood. >> when the tourism department does commercials, they normally show line the downtown french quarter area. but they tend to leave out some of the more important neighborhoods that surround the city. my name is terrence higgins, born and raised here in new orleans. and right now we're uptown. mixed incomes, mixed ethnicities. you can walk two blocks that way and you'll be like in a higher scale neighborhood. and two blocks that way and be just a little bit of the ghetto, you know. i mean, the demographic here is wide. and it didn't flood in this area during katrina. this is like high ground. so it's almost like the safest place in new orleans. people are soup
